‘Avatar 3’ Crosses ₹4,000 Crore Worldwide in Just 6 Days Ahead of Christmas; India Set to Join ₹100 Cr Club

James Cameron’s much-awaited sci-fi spectacle ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ has taken the global box office by storm. Even before Christmas celebrations began, ‘Avatar 3’ crossed the massive ₹4,000 crore mark worldwide within just six days of release, reaffirming the franchise’s unmatched global appeal.

According to a report by Variety, the film has already earned $450 million globally, translating to approximately ₹4,042 crore. While the film is facing stiff competition in India from Ranveer Singh’s blockbuster ‘Dhurandhar’, its worldwide dominance remains unquestionable.

India Box Office Steady, ₹100 Crore Milestone Imminent

In India, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ has collected ₹95.80 crore net in six days, narrowly missing the ₹100 crore mark. On Wednesday, the film saw a notable jump in collections, earning ₹10.30 crore across six languages, up from ₹9.25 crore the previous day. With the Christmas holiday on Thursday and extended New Year festivities ahead, the film is expected to comfortably cross ₹100 crore in India.

Strong Performance in the US and Global Markets

In the domestic US market, the film has crossed $119 million (₹1,068 crore). Despite opening slower than its predecessor, ‘Avatar 2’, analysts predict a sharp upward trend during the festive season.

Industry experts estimate that between December 25 and January 1, the film could generate an additional ₹800–900 crore globally, pushing its worldwide total closer to the ₹5,000 crore mark by year-end.

Comparison with ‘Avatar 2’

With a reported budget of ₹3,600 crore, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is currently trailing behind ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ (2022), which had amassed ₹4,960 crore globally and ₹179.8 crore net in India within six days. However, given the holiday advantage, the third installment is expected to significantly close the gap in the coming weeks.

Competition Ahead

The film will face fresh competition at the global box office from new releases such as Timothée Chalamet’s sports drama comedy ‘Marty Supreme’, the musical drama ‘Song Sang Blue’, and the reboot ‘Anaconda’.

‘Zootopia 2’ Sets a New Benchmark

Meanwhile, Disney’s animated sequel ‘Zootopia 2’ continues its historic run, having already grossed $1.3 billion (₹11,677 crore) worldwide, making it one of the biggest box office successes of the year ahead of Christmas.

With festive holidays driving footfalls worldwide, ‘Avatar 3’ appears poised for an even bigger global run, once again proving James Cameron’s mastery over the box office.
