Actress Sunny Leone’s scheduled performance in Mathura for New Year’s celebrations has been cancelled following protests from local saints and religious leaders, raising questions about the event’s planning.
The event was set to take place at a local bar on 1 January 2026, where Sunny Leone was to perform as a DJ. However, the program was called off after protests from religious authorities, including a letter from the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas to the District Magistrate, requesting that the event be cancelled.
Dinesh Falahari of the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas said, “Lord Krishna performed his divine pastimes here. Saints come to Mathura for worship and spiritual activities. Inviting Sunny Leone for a performance at such a sacred place was an attempt by some to defame the Brij region and Sanatan Dharma.”
Responding to the objections, Mithul Pathak, a partner of the event’s venue, The Trunk Bar, said, “Out of respect for the sentiments of local saints, we have decided to cancel Sunny Leone’s program. Ticket refunds will be provided.”
Pathak further clarified that misinformation had spread about the event, emphasizing that Sunny Leone was only scheduled to perform as a DJ and entry was strictly through tickets. “Sunny performs across India. Should she face opposition everywhere?” he added.
Currently, Sunny Leone is hosting MTV Splitsvilla, with Karan Kundra as her co-host. Despite the cancellation, the actress continues to be a prominent figure in entertainment events nationwide.
