

Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Women’s cricket team continued their dominant run in the T20 series against Sri Lanka Women by securing a convincing victory in the fourth match. Both teams showcased explosive batting, setting their highest scores in T20 Internationals, but India’s batting firepower proved too strong to overcome.
Batting first, India posted a formidable total of 221 for 2 wickets, led by brilliant half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma. Mandhana, after a quiet start in the series, struck 80 runs off 48 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes, while Shafali contributed 79 runs from 46 balls, hitting 12 fours and a six. The duo put together a 162-run opening partnership, marking the highest opening stand for India in T20 Internationals. Both batters narrowly missed out on centuries.
Late partnerships push India to record total
Richa Ghosh (unbeaten 40 off 16 balls) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (16*) added 53 runs off just 23 balls for the third wicket, taking India to its highest T20 total, surpassing the previous record of 217 for 4 against West Indies in December 2024. The team smashed 28 fours and 8 sixes, setting a new record for most boundaries in an Indian women’s T20 innings. From Sri Lanka’s bowling side, Nimasha Madhushani and Malsha Shehani picked up one wicket each.
Sri Lanka fights back but falls short
In response, Sri Lanka mounted an aggressive chase, scoring 191 for 6 wickets. Captain Chamari Athapaththu top-scored with 52 runs off 37 balls, including 3 sixes and 3 fours. Hasini Perera contributed a quick-fire 33 off 20 balls, and Imesha Dulani added 29. For India, Arundhati Reddy and Vaishnavi Sharma claimed 2 wickets each, while Sri Charani took 1.
The fifth and final match of the series is scheduled on December 30 at the same venue, where Sri Lanka will aim to salvage pride, while India seeks a clean sweep with a 5-0 victory.
