New Delhi: The 44th India International Trade Fair commenced on Friday in Delhi, featuring participation from companies across 12 countries. However, the event’s foreign pavilions surprised visitors as no high-tech or machinery-based exhibits were on display on the first day. Instead, the stalls largely showcased salwar suits, cosmetics, home décor, stone rings, dry fruits, sweets, chocolates, and kitchenware.
Hong Kong’s Homeware Presence
Despite extensive promotion by ITPO regarding China’s participation, only a single Hong Kong company, Onyx, was present. Onyx is selling large stone planters, jars, plates, and bowls, with supplies sourced from Afghanistan. Director Md. Shaukat Ali confirmed that no representatives from China or Hong Kong attended the fair.
Foreign Pavilions and Participating Countries
The foreign pavilion, located at Hall 1, Ground Floor of India Mandapam, includes over 80 stalls from Thailand, Dubai, Iran, Afghanistan, Korea, Turkey, Egypt, and Tunisia. Dry fruits are prominently displayed at Afghan and Iranian stalls. Thailand has the largest number of stalls, offering salwar suits and fancy items. Agents managing Afghan and Iranian stalls noted that they also trade dry fruits in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar market.
Delhi Pavilion Highlights
The Delhi Pavilion features 49 stalls from MSMEs, artisans, startups, and small entrepreneurs from various districts. The pavilion is designed with a Red Fort theme and emphasizes inclusion, providing special opportunities for women entrepreneurs and SC/ST-based units. The ITPO began the fair without any formal announcements or press briefings.
Key Takeaway:
While foreign participants are present in numbers, the first day lacked innovative technology exhibits, highlighting a focus on traditional consumer goods and handicrafts rather than industrial or high-tech displays.
