Jodhpur, Rajasthan: A sudden, thunderous noise in Jodhpur’s Mandore area on Monday afternoon triggered widespread panic among residents. Many initially feared it was an explosion or an earthquake, but the Indian Army later confirmed it was a sonic boom from a fighter jet during a routine training flight.
Videos capturing the loud blast circulated widely on social media, fueling speculation. The sonic boom, created when a fighter jet exceeds the speed of sound, was heard across Mandore, Lal Sagar, and Surpura areas, alarming local residents. Many called authorities, fearing a major mishap.
Officials clarified that no damage or casualties occurred. The loud noise, though startling, was entirely due to the Indian Air Force aircraft breaking the sound barrier during its scheduled operations.
Residents expressed relief after the clarification, but the incident sparked a flurry of discussion online and offline, highlighting how unexpected sonic booms can easily be mistaken for explosions in urban areas.
Authorities have advised citizens to remain calm and stay informed through official channels during such incidents.
